The Rising of the Shield Hero – First Impressions

The Winter 2019 anime season is well and truly underway. As is always the case, there are a few anime that have had pre-aired episodes even before their respective seasons have started. One such case is The Rising of the Shield Hero, with a 45 minute long first episode that has pre-aired in late December. It is my first isekai since the summer, when I watched Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu. And I already feel like it’s gonna be a much better experience than that ecchi, to say the least, anime. The Rising of the Shield Hero The story follows the 18 year-old student otaku Naofumi Iwatani, who spends his days at home and likes to go to the library from time to time. At one such occasion, he stumbled upon a book which ended up summoning him into a fantasy game-like world. Doesn’t really sound like Continue reading…

Winter 2019: What looks interesting

With Fall 2018 behind us, it’s time to focus on the new season of anime that is ahead. Last winter was my favorite anime season to date, with series like A Place Further than the Universe, Yuru Camp and Violet Evergarden all airing at the same time. Can this year’s winter season compare to that? Make your own conclusions as I will list the anime I am most likely to watch in Winter 2019, based on their PV, synopsis and genres. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (MAL link) This is an anime whose first episode I have already seen, as it has pre-aired at the end of December. The first episode is 45 minutes long. It’s an isekai with a twist – the main character has been falsely accused of assault and is known by the world for all the wrong reasons. He lacks the thrust of others, and lacks Continue reading…

Toradora December #4 – Episodes 20 – 25

When I came up with the idea for this series of posts, I thought I will pick 5 best moments each time. It was hard to pick the moments since the beginning, but by the third installment it became impossible. In the third part I “sneaked in” an extra moment, making it 6. But for this final part, I’m just gonna go all out, no matter how long the post will be. Each episode has several different moments worth talking about. So leaving things out just to make it 5 overall for all 6 episodes makes no sense. So with that out of the way, let’s begin! For the final time. *cries* Shocking confession – Episode 20 As Christmas ended, Ryuuji had to move forward. Taiga believed in him and Minori. She has realized what Minori is doing – not acting on her feelings in order to not hurt Taiga. Continue reading…

What I watched in Fall 2018

2018 is coming to an end, and with it the Fall 2018 season of anime. This post is a round-up of everything I watched since the start of October, from both seasonal and non-seasonal anime. Seasonal anime Akanesasu Shoujo This seemed like a decent anime due to the concept of travelling through different worlds. Another thing that seemed interesting was the main character meeting a version of herself from the alternate world. However, I watched the first two episodes and haven’t returned to it since. But there are positive comments on the direction the anime took, so I think I’ll look into it once again. Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara Irozuku intrigued me with its visuals and interesting premise. I can’t say it was dissspointing. The last few episodes have been heartbreaking and I can only imagine the feels the final episode will bring. This was really enjoyable and I’m Continue reading…

Toradora December #3 – Episodes 14 – 19

Before I start with part 3 of Toradora December, I want to wish a merry Christmas to everyone reading this! Thank you for taking the time of your day to read this post. The third set of episodes involved superstitious rumours, elections for the student council and a Christmas party. Let’s dive into it! Ami is our last hope – Episode 15 When Kitamura dyed his hair out of refusal to become the student council president, Ami Kawashima made some harsh comments on him. And Minori understands why. She thinks highly of Ami’s words, due to her experience with the adult world. Minori wants to believe that for this reason, Ami already understands everyone’s feelings. She thinks of Ami as the group’s last hope. Ryuuji calls Minorin kind, which she denies, describing herself as “phony”. Ryuuji didn’t seem to understand why she described herself like that. But he did seem Continue reading…

When anime inspires you to… cook

Today is one of those days when I’m home alone. And when that is the case, I sometimes get to experiment in the kitchen. I search for some simple but cool recipes my skills and available ingredients would allow me to prepare. And I love that proud feeling I have when the meal I make ends up with a great taste. Today I wanted to make the ramune candies, which I’ve seen in 3-gatsu no Lion. They looked so easy to make, and so few ingredients were needed. I bought cornstarch in the store. I thought that was the only ingredient needed that I didn’t have at home. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. It turns out powdered sugar was also missing. A shame, but I’ll make those ramunes soon. I’ll probably make them for Christmas. But this wasn’t the first time I “tried” making something I’ve seen in anime… My Continue reading…

Toradora December #2 – Episodes 7 – 13

Another quarter of the Toradora rewatch is already done, which means its time for the new installment of Toradora December! This pack of episodes involved swimming pools, beach houses, caves, fireworks, family issues and the school cultural festival. Here are my 5 favorite moments. Ryuuji is mine! – Episode 8 Ryuuji ends up knocked down in the swimming pool. The person he sees helping him out is Taiga. As he wakes up, Taiga breaks down emotionally, because no one noticed what has happened to Ryuuji. She screams “Ryuuji is mine!” and tells everyone to keep their hands off him. Such a powerful scene. I think what happened speaks for itself. But what has made this scene even more powerful for me are the reactions from Minori and Kitamura. They understood everything, probably better than Ryuuji and Taiga themselves. Afterwards, Taiga tried to downplay the moment. “He is my dog. I Continue reading…

Top 10 Openings of 2018

As the year comes to an end, its time to make a few of those “best of x year” posts. My first one for this year will be about anime openings. Before I get started, I feel like there is one thing I should note: I actually don’t watch a lot of seasonal anime. It turns out that out of the 4 anime seasons in 2018, I only watched 21 seasonal anime (Fall 2018 included). The reason for this is that I only watch stuff that I feel I would like. I don’t think starting dozens of anime each season just because they are airing at that moment would work well for me. While this means I could miss out on a lot of amazing anime, I do make the decision to occasionally pick up shows later on in the season if they are talked about a lot, or if Continue reading…

Toradora December #1 – Episodes 1 – 6

Toradora is one of those anime that will always have a special place in my heart.  The first time I’ve seen it was in summer 2017, aka the start of my anime watching career. It was one of the first anime I’ve watched subbed, and my first ever romance/comedy/slice of life anime. Last Christmas was when I rewatched it for the first time, and it made for my favorite Christmas to date. Back then I decided I will rewatch Toradora every Christmas, and after a long year of waiting and resisting rewatching this anime, finally the time has come to start watching it for the third time. It feels like I’ve returned to the warmth of my home that I’ve left for an entire year or something. It’s so nice to watch this once again. I’ve started this year’s rewatch on the 6th December. It’s that exact date, because that Continue reading…

SAO Alicization Episode 10 has me shocked

I don’t know why Sword Art Online keeps adding those close to be raped scenes. Each season had one so far. I guess it’s to increase the emotions, make us hate the antagonists and increase the rage of our protagonists… And in all those aspects it really does work but you just wonder… Aren’t there different ways to achieve that? But in any case, 3 seasons, 3 such scenes have happened. And this time we were even warned before the start that some explicit stuff will happen. Progress I guess. It’s weird picking which one of these scenes was the best in SAO so far but I’d say this one was the best. For the reasons surrounding it ofcourse. I say that because this was a huge moment for Eugeo. We saw his rage and we saw him get the system alert message on his eye again. He was left Continue reading…
